The purpose of the USDA-NIFA Family and Consumer Economics is to establish educational and research priorities for local communities, states, multi-state, and national work on emerging issues germane to the economic well-being of individuals and families through the work of the Land-grant University and Cooperative Extension system. Priority issues include financial instability across the lifespan, helping rural and urban individuals and families maintain economic stability in a changing economy, and supporting community development in increasingly complex and diverse environments. The Family & Consumer Economics programs are managed by the Division of Family & Consumer Sciences within the Institute of Youth, Families & Communities.
